Cafe' Delicio: Hidden Gem On The Wharf

As a married couple with a 2 year old daughter, you often find that a time out as a couple is almost impossible.

Now this isn't through any fault of Danielle's. The problem here is that being first-time parents, besides feeling paranoid, more than anything we feel extremely guilty.

The thought of having fun on our own, without our Little Miss Sunshine makes us feel a bit bleak.

So when date night comes along every 3 or 4 months, besides missing our pretty little unicorn, we do have a good time.

This particular date night, we found ourselves at Wilson's Wharf.

There are a few restaurants there that we haven't even heard of, which is great, because sometimes you need to break away from the old run of the mill spots.

We chose Cafe' Delicio. It was right in the middle of the wharf, with an amazing view of the yachts.

There were a number of specials, and my husband Ashley was enticed by a challenge they had running.

If you could finish 1 KG of rump steak in a hour, you would get a free drink as well as have your name written on their wall of fame.

If anything, I think Ashley just wanted to see if he could even eat a KG of steak, let alone in an hour.

The steak which cost R120, was accompanied with onion rings, chips and a mushroom sauce.

Ashley attempted the challenge, but it took 20 minutes for him to be defeated, having finished just half the portion.

I pointed out that in another 20 minutes he'd be able to finish the meal, but he was so stuffed, he looked like he was going to pop!

He did keep saying that the steak was absolutely divine. Cooked and seasoned well.

We overheard one of the owners saying that the meat is brought in from the Free State every week and does not sit in the freezer for weeks, so it's fresh, quality meat.

I had chosen another of their specials, 2 burgers for R60 with chips. I chose 2 chicken burgers, one to eat in and one for a takeaway.

The burger was huge. I too felt so stuffed, that I couldn't move.

Overall the food was great. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was a bubbly young lady who was on the ball all the time, without being intrusive.

The restaurant is fancy without being uptight, and has a chilled feel to it.

I would give the food and service a 10/10.

So if ever you are near the Durban CBD or decide to take a drive near the Wharf, head on over to Cafe' Delicio.

You will be welcomed with a smile and your belly will be happy you went there. :)

To contact Cafe' Delicio you can visit their Facebook page or call 076 539 9439.

Happy Munching!
