Windsor Park Didn't Bring The Heat

I love food and I am not a pretentious eater.

I hate that something like food, as with clothes and and style, has been tainted by the hipster fad.

Food, like everything in life, should be simple yet fulfilling.

So for this blog, I've decided to write about any and every food experience I have.

My latest post is about Windsor Park Takeaway in Stamford Hill, Durban.

This is a small, simple takeaway, that's a stone throw away from the factory shopping hub of Durban, Stamford Hill Road.

I heard about Windsor Park through a friend of mine, who swore by their toasted sandwiches, especially on fasting days, when good vegetarian dishes were hard to find.

With a rumbly in my tumbly, I decided to try them. The plus was that they delivered so it was just a matter of placing an order via telephone and waiting.

I ordered a quarter sugar beans bunny (because really, ain't nobody got time for broad beans).

It cost R16. I also ordered a portion of hot chips which costed R10.

When the order arrived I was eager to tuck in as I was quite hungry.

On appearance it looked really good; so much so that I couldn't wait to take a picture and just dug in.

The flavour of the curry was nice and the bread was fresh. However, I love hot food and this was nowhere near hot, which was a let down for me.

Maybe I was meant to tell them that I wanted a hot bunny, I'm not sure. The area is quite mixed so maybe they cater for everyone when it comes to the heat of the curry. I've never needed to do this with other takeaways but anyway...

Anyone that knows me, knows that if there is one thing I am a sucker for, it's chips. Whether it's the Simba kind or fried hot chips, I love them both.

So when eating hot chips from anywhere, I am quite critical.

I think the chips were a bit bland. Yes there was sauce on top, but I kind of felt that it lacked salt, and could of been in the fryer for a bit longer. It was a bit hard, not the crunch then soft inside I love.

Overall I would give the sugar beans bunny a 7/10, simply because it lacked the heat I love, and I'd give the hot chips a 6/10 as it could have been cooked a bit more.

I've learnt that you cannot judge an eatery by a first-experience.

This applies for both good and bad experiences, because sometimes your first-experience could be awesome, then you go back and are sorely disappointed.

You could also have a bad first-experience, but can go back and have a better experience.

So I will be giving Windsor Park a second chance, maybe a month from now.

I'll be sure to keep you all posted.

If you would like to give them a try you can call 031 312 0122.

Happy Munching!
