Any time there's a family gathering, the focal point of the day is the sit-down meals together.
And as an Indian family, staple meals consisted of curry. There were the occasional roasts and pastas, but those always came with a bit of heat.
Food from other parts of the world were unknown territory for us.
So when I began dating my now-husband Ashley, he was determined to show me the tastes and flavours of various countries.
One Saturday afternoon we found ourselves heading to Riverside, to a place called China Plate.

But Ashley wasn't having it. He pointed out that this was the only place where he ate Chinese food and that it was a family-owned establishment.
So there we were, at China Plate, with me trying a Chow Mein for the first-time. For those of you that don't know, Chow Mein is the term for Stir-Fried Noodles.
You can choose options of either Chicken, Prawn, Beef or mixed which is a combination of the first 3 options.
I decided to go with a Chicken Chow Mein, and was extremely delighted with my choice.

The dish itself was so full of complimenting flavours. I was extremely surprised and delighted.
A while later Ashley got me to try another dish, the Fried Rice. Again, I went for the Chicken option. The rice was packed with veggies and a delicious flavour that lingered.
Once again the portion was massive and I was able to eat the food for lunch and a light supper.
China Plate itself is quaint and inviting.

The restaurant décor takes you on a trip to China, completing the dining experience.
The owner, George Hu, is well know throughout Durban. George, together with his staff, deliver meals that are fun, flavourful and filling.
The pricing of meals is also quite reasonable considering the huge portion sizes.
So whether you'd like to try the noodles, rice or even some dessert, China Plate is the place to be.
For more information you can visit their website or call 031 564 6437.
Try them out and let me know what your thoughts are.
Happy Munching!
